Book Review: Cry to Me by J.A. Schneider

CRY TO ME  by J. A. Schneider is an absorbing and tense psychological thriller that grabs you on page one and doesn’t let go until the very end! The novel begins when Kim, a true crime writer, receives a cryptic email from her sister, Liddy, who she hasn’t seen in a while. Liddy and her husband, Wyatt, a successful tech CEO, are hosting a party to celebrate the renovation of their 1920s home and Kim is invited. However, the party turns out to be less than festive when Kim discovers Wyatt dead in his office and her sister with a gunshot wound to her head, the murder weapon in her hand. A murder-suicide attempt? That’s what the cops think, but Kim isn’t so sure.

Thus, begins this tautly written tale of murder and madness. Reminiscent to this reader of Christie’s Ten Little Indians and/or Murder on the Orient Express, author Schneider maroons Kim, Liddy, and three other suspects inside the old manse as a deadly hurricane approaches. All of the characters (Kim and Liddy included) have troubled pasts which are slowly revealed as Kim tries doggedly to ferret out the truth of what happened to Wyatt. Red herrings abound as she struggles with the possibility that her sister may indeed be the murderer.

Cry To Me is a masterful whodunit and author Schneider keeps the reader guessing until the very end. This is my first read by J. A. Schneider, but I can guarantee you it won’t be my last! Highly recommended for lovers of mystery, mayhem, and brilliantly crafted suspense! Five stars!
