Book Review: “A Gathering of Twine (Spirals of Danu) by Martin Adil-Smith

5star-rating1“A Gathering of Twine (The Spirals of Danu)” weaves an intricate and compelling story in fabric of time. Unfortunately, for those too close to it, breaches in the loosely woven threads create openings, allowing ancient evil to seep through. Mr. Adil-Smith paints for the reader a disturbing world steeped in mystery and ultimate horror, creating a very powerful and provocative vision.

The story begins in the not too distant future as celebrated writer, Freeman Sullivan, fleeing from unknown adversaries, takes refuge at his publisher’s office and proceeds to try to convince her to let him have sanctuary there to finish his new work. Thus, his narrative takes us on a journey through time, back to creation itself, following the trail of archeologist, George Tate, and his curiously ageless companion. Following the two, we jump from one decade to another, as the lives of the characters we meet seem to intertwine sinisterly – all leading back in some way to a strange fortress by a turbulent sea and a not so benign goddess/creator.

I thoroughly enjoyed this journey – the characters are well written and complex and the story line will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat throughout. I can’t wait to start the second volume in this series, “The Beggar of Beliefs”. Bravo, Mr. Adil-Smith, bravo – a well earned 5-stars!
