BOOK REVIEW: YOU DID NOTHING WRONG by C.G. Drews

You Did Nothing Wrong by CG Drews is an extraordinary psychological thriller. I literally couldn’t put it down.

Elodie is living a dream. Only twenty-two years old and the mother of six-year-old, she has met the perfect man who has whisked her away from the hovel she was living in in Australia, to an old Victorian home in Virginia. Bren, her new husband, adores her, but she has secrets that she must keep hidden from him. Her son, Jude, appears to the reader at first to be autistic. He doesn’t focus easily, has tantrums, and has, on occasion, lashed out against his mother. Elodie keeps him under control by playing games – games she usually lets him win.

The house, once Bren’s family home, is sadly in need of renovating and Bren, an accountant by trade, takes on the job himself. Jude doesn’t like his new home and tells his mother that there is something breathing in the walls and that the house wants to eat him. Elodie tells her son this is nonsense and tries desperately to keep contact between Jude and her new husband short and sweet. She will allow nothing to upset her new fairytale existence. In addition, she is pregnant with Bren’s child and sees this chance as a do-over. This time the child will come out perfect.

This debut novel hooks the reader right away. What is Elodie hiding? Is Bren really as good as he seems? And, what really is wrong with Jude? Is it the house or something much more malevolent? The writing is haunting, creepy, and addictive. Author Drews sucks you into her tale as you turn page after page trying to unravel the mystery of the house and of Elodie.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and recommend it most highly to readers who love a good thriller with a psychological twist and books that dwell in haunted houses. Superior achievement by Author Drews.
