The Blood of the Viper by Linda Watkins is part of the Kate Pomeroy Mystery series. Kate has returned to Storm Island and is enjoying her life once more. She has her new husband, Jeremy, a new baby, and she is back at work. At long last, after all her trials, she has a normal life. Or so she thought. But the dark forces are still there, still plaguing her and it looks like Kate will need to fight once more. This time will be the most dangerous – the blood is waiting, waiting for a human soul, and it could wait forever. Its time may be coming though and Kate is about to be tested to the limit as she tries to keep herself and her new family safe from the preternatural menace haunting her.
The Blood of the Viper by Linda Watkins is the fifth book in the Kate Pomeroy paranormal series and, not having read any others in the series, this one made me want to go back to the beginning and read them all. This is a thrilling story that will drag you from the heady heights of a fantastic life to the deep, despairing gloom and terror the blood creates. The characters are well-rounded, real people with real-life problems and quirks that you can’t help but like and the plot is deep, sometimes terrifying. It will have you on the edge of your seat as each chapter desperately makes you want to read the next – before you know it, your nails will be bitten to the quick and the story will end. A fantastic addition to this genre. I’m looking forward to reading the whole series.
