Ode to My Sump Pump

The rain comes down heavy and hard,

Pooling and running thru my side yard,

Under the ground, under the hedge,

It seeps and winds along the ledge,

It discovers the cellar along its way,

A low point that will made it’s day,

Into the cellar it comes in a stream,

Hot and heavy like a teen’s wet dream,

It flows across the cellar floor

Till it makes a pool and flows no more

And then a wonderous sound I hear,

The sump pump is working, I lose my fear

Woosh it goes, pushing upward hard,

Moving the water to my front yard.

“All hail the sump pump” the neighbors shout,

And pray to God the power doesn’t go out!
